Gender Violence

A contemporary analysis of Gender Violence as it affects our world

Ajah Newsome

Hello! Welcome to my bio section of this website! Designed to highlight some of the struggles that women face daily regarding gender violence. I feel very fortunate to have been able to work on this project with a group of likeminded individuals who share similar interests as me. I hope you enjoy navigating our website!

A little about me:

I am a third year Political Science and Journalism student here at the University of Victoria. I enjoy travelling and learning about different cultures and societies since I grew up in a very small and close minded town called Pemberton, in British Columbia. I also enjoy reading and writing about important issue that influence the world around us. When I was 9 years old my parents took me out of school to go travel South East Asia for a year, which is what led me to become further interested in topics of gender and sexual violence. Since then I have also travelled to live in Guatemala for an extended period which is what influenced my research article that you can see in the ‘pages’ section of our website!

It is very cool that you have had the amazing opportunity to travel and get to know such completely different cultures. It was really nice to work side by side with you in this project! To anyone coming across this message: go read Ajah’s paper analysing gender-based violence in Guatemala! 🙂
